About Jonathan R. Matos
Hello World,
I sign each post as CookieMonster. Why? Because I've always had nightmares of him eating me, so I figured I should face my fears.
Growing up with dyslexia, I never enjoyed putting myself out there through writing or social media. Therefore, this is my attempt to 'face the Cookie Monster'.
I grew up in New Jersey, where I graduated as an Electrical and Computer Engineer. From there, I worked for Schneider Electric, as well as renewable energy startups and a pharmaceutical consulting firm. Since 2016, most of my time has been spent in the cryptocurrency world. Outside of the crypto world, I enjoy surfing, snowboarding, baseball, and hanging out with loved ones. I've traveled to about 40+ countries, but now call Los Angeles and Lisbon my homes.
My father worked in a power utility for 35+ years. Walking down the street was never dull moment with him as he would point out all the power lines and circuits just above. He'd explain how the 'magical' invisible electricity functions, and how it is the foundation of modern society which greatly influenced how I saw the world. I fell in love with the concept that electricity is invisible yet runs the world. He also took me to ancient sites such as Machu Picchu, which made me wonder how the lost ancient knowledge and technology used then could have advanced our society today.
Within this blog, you'll notice that I approach most topics from a 'first principles' perspective. For me, this comes down to energy and physics, as outlined in the first post. You'll also notice that I touch upon some out-of-the-box ideas. I do this because I believe that if humans are meant to build a better world, then we need to leave our egos at the door and learn from the past while keeping a 'first principles' perspective.
For me personally, discovering Bitcoin in 2016 helped me break down my ego and allowed me to explore economic and societal perspectives that I had not previously considered. As always, there is more to learn from one another. My goal here is to give readers a different perspective on the world around us, while also facing my own fear of the Cookie Monster!
Love,
CookieMonster
